Over the Coffee - July 2017

We are halfway through 2017! Hard to believe. Anyway, here at North Baptist Church we are looking forward to July 4th celebrations and continuing in our topics on Sunday mornings. We are also continuing in our adult Bible Fellowship class on Sunday mornings to read and discuss Clayton Sullivan's book Jesus and the Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church. This slim novel is powerful in its portrayal of racism in the 1960's and certainly timely in light of things going on in our society today.

The Common Lectionary Readings for July include (for those who are keeping up with the readings):

  • July 2 Genesis 22:1-14; Psalm 89:1-4,15-18; Romans 6:12-23; Matthew 10:40-42
  • July 9 Genesis 24:34-67; Psalm 145:8-14; Romans 7:15-25a; Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30
  • July 16 Genesis 25:19-34; Psalm 65:1-13; Romans 8:1-11; Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23
  • July 23 Genesis 28:10-19a, Psalm 86:11-17, Romans 8:12-25, Matthew 13:24-43
  • July 30 Genesis 29:15-28, Psalm 119:129-136, Romans 8:26-39, Matthew 13:31-52

The Sermon schedule for the month will be as follows:

  • July 2 Romans 12 – 13, “Our Patriotic Duty”
  • July 9 Romans 7: 14 – 25, “Our Self Duty”
  • July 16 Romans 8:1 – 17, “Our Spiritual Duty”
  • July 23 Matthew 13:24 – 43, “Our Social Duty”

Let's enjoy this middle of the summer!
